Chile Joins Hague Convention

Past December 16 2015, the government of the Republic of Chile has completed the process to abolish requirement of Legalization for Foreign Public Documents. Chile deposited its instrument of accession to the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961.

The Apostille convention will come into force on August 30 2016.

The Hague Apostille Convention allows the 112 signing member nations to accept the following public documents:

– Birth Certificate
– Marriage Certificate
– Diplomas
– Transcripts
– Power of Attorney
– FBI Criminal Background Checks
– Police Records
– Judgment of Divorce
– Certificate of Free Sale
– Certificate of Origin
– Letter of Authorization
– Commercial Invoice
– Notarized copy of ID, Passport
– Death Certificate
– Department of Health and Human Services documents
– Food and Drug Administration (FDA)
– Certificate of Good Conduct

Apostille process is characterised by fewer and faster stages than legalization for Foreign Public Documents.

The government of the Republic of Chile has expressed strong commitment to join the Hague Apostille Convention.
